Rarotonga's Beaches and Lagoon

With 35kms of coast line Rarotonga offers everything in the way of reefs, lagoon and ocean to explore.

Kakera Beach located 30 seconds from Apartments Kakera's back gate, is natural unspoilt, private and unique.  You can play in the safely of the shallows and watch surfers sporting there moves - just breathtaking.  There are sandy areas and a deck for sun bathing and large rock pools for safe batheing.  It is the kind of beach you need to explore to discover the sea creatures, baby fish, shells and coral. Great place for a private beach BBQ ask your hosts about the traditional hot coral cooking method, the taste is something else.   Photo Right: Kakera beach "surfs up"

For those up early the sunrise over Kakera is something else.  With each morning offering different colours and lights depending on the amount of cloud, you are sure to get a post card shot to show friends and family.  The moon at sunset also offers a sight worth catching, it rises in almost the same spot as the sun in the morning. Photo right:Kakera sunrise.

Muri Beach (photo right) is situated on the south-eastern coast of Rarotonga 2kms, a 20min walk or 3 min drive from Apartments Kakera, so make your way over...  Muri Beach faces four uninhabited islands within the reef (it is possible to just wade across to two of these islands!) and has a lovely shallow lagoon for swimming, snorkelling and water activities.  You can easily hire cannoes, wind surfer, and snorkelling gear is available from the Apartments Kakera office free of charge.
Just 2kms on from Muri is the best snorkelling on Rarotonga, this spot is call Fruits of Rarotonga and this area is a local raui:  the area is a protected marine reserve, so it means fish are plentiful and easily found in the areas where reef  corals are close by.  If you take bread with you the fish will eat from your hand, there are also several griant clams in this area.

With each mile you travel around the edge of this relaxed and amazing tropical island the more unique beaches you will see, you may decided to explore each one or just simply sit in the lagoon water and ponder your life.  This whole safe and accessable island awaits you, but watch out you might get hooked on it and want to return time and time again as many visitors do.

.....and after the beach cool off in your private plunge pool (photo right)
